Marvelous Makeup

Let me preface this post with a few facts:

  1. This is not a paid post. Bare Minerals, Laroche-Posay, and Burts Bees are not my affiliates.
  2. The lighting is harsh overhead lighting on a white background.
  3. I took these pictures with an Olympus camera holding it arms length away without a tripod.
  4. Except for resizing and bumping the brightness up to ten these pictures have not been photoshopped.

I have been on a search for the right makeup for my skin texture and tone for several years, and I have tried a lot of products! Some expensive, some not. There are many choices, but I had some specific requirements. First and foremost the application had to be fast! This gal is not going to take the time to contour, apply eyeshadow or eyeliner. The products had to look good with minimal effort. Besides I have one of those faces that the more makeup I put on, the older I look. That might have been fine at eighteen but these days the hard look is not what I am going for. I also don’t care for the thick matte finish, after a couple of hours all of that base, cover-up and powder just settles into the creases and makes them more pronounced.

I wanted to give you an intimate and realistic view of my skin and what my new products actually do. Please forgive the closeness it’s uncomfortable for me as well!

Fresh out of the shower. Large pores and uneven skin tone.

Blow-dry and primer applied.

My hair was getting out of hand, so the Duke just whacked three inches off the ends. I haven’t had time for a visit to the salon, and I am in desperate need of a color and style. The Duke wanted to try his hand at texturizing, so I threw my towel over his head and ran!

A light application of Pure Brightening Serum Foundation with an SPF 20. And Well Rested eye primer to fill in those endless dark caverns in the corners of my eyes. One application of mascara.

One lopsided view of my face.

Take out the velcro curlers that added a little lift to my hair and applied Burt’s Bees Rhubarb Lip Shimmer.

This look might not be enough for everyone, but it suits my lifestyle and my requirements for easy application. When it is all said and done exercising, eating right, applying copious amounts of sunscreen and telling myself I will go through this process gracefully is often enough, but a little makeup never hurts!

The three Bare Mineral products I used are Prime Time foundation primer, Pure Brightening Serum Foundation, and Well-Rested eye primer. These are good all natural products that will not put a huge dent in your wallet.

My go to sunscreen is always Laroche-Posay. It is a little more expensive than most, but I have used it on my face and neck for several years and love it. I was a sun worshipper back in the 80’s and a landscape designer, so I have my share of sun damage. We also exercise and spend a lot of family time outside as I have gotten older I have a great appreciation for protecting my skin. This variety shown in the picture is a tinted sunscreen that is perfect for the pool and beach or those days when you just don’t feel like putting your face on.

Burt’s Bees products are great. I use several shades of their lip shimmer and lip balm. These products are also good for young girls wanting to experiment with makeup. With Thanks!

Fall Fashion Guide

Fall Fasion Guide

Active Wear

Major trends from the runway include hoodies, military jackets, cut outs, and angled hem clothing. These trends are showing up a lot in Active Wear because let’s face it the majority of people would rather wear leisure wear than uncomfortable clothing. I feel like I practically live in Active Wear! So, if you are like me and need to shop on a budget, Target is a great place to pick up all of these trendy pieces particularly if you wear out your active wear pretty quickly. I tend to shop the sales/clearance section first, but their regular priced items are well priced as well! Here are some of my favorite pieces that display these trends!

The military and leather jacket is going to be on trend this season as well as varying lengths of jackets. Dusters, capelets, and crop jackets are going to be in fashion because it offers more flattering shapes for all body types. Dusters can elongate your frame where as crop jackets can help define a waist if you have a larger bust and a boxy shape. Click on some of my favorites below!

Dresses are going to come in all shapes and sizes this fall! Darker colors are going to prevail as well as a-line dresses. You will see a nod towards 90s fashions with denim, sage green, tie-dye, and grunge looks. So, whether you like tight a-line dresses, t-shirt dresses, or flowy mixed hem dresses, there is something for everyone. These are some of my favorites!

Jeans, leggings, pants, shorts, and skirts…the possibilities for bottoms are endless! The main trends that we see in bottoms is the wide leg or fit and flare. The elongated look is trendy and fun. Leather, velvet, and pleats are a major staple for your bottom choices as well as darker patterns. Of course, not every trend will flatter every body type, so if you aren’t loving the trend or you aren’t feeling like trying velvet leggings, then you can always opt for classic silhouettes and fabrics. Some of my favorite looks are below both adventurous and traditional!

Probably one of my favorite pieces of clothing because it’s convenient and easy to style. Rompers and Jumpsuits are going to be very flowy with delicate accents reminiscent of medieval gowns. The colors are rich and vibrant. Sleeves and pant legs are wide and bell shaped.

Casual seems to be what’s trending this season. Comfy fabrics like cotton and nylon are juxtaposed with lace. Lace is very popular this season because it adds a feminine element to the typical cut-outs that we are leaving behind in the summer season. Once again, dark, rich colors and patterns are popular with a mix of 90s grudge and medieval glamour. Below are my top picks.

Hope this helps in looking for the hottest trends for fall. Like I said, when I am shopping trends for fashion seasons, I don’t like to spend too much money because if it’s a passing trend, then you are stuck with that item that you spent $200 on. My tips for you this fall is go into every store knowing how much you want to spend and do not go over that. Spend more money on classic pieces for your wardrobe and get the trendy fun items at lower prices. Have fun shopping my friends, and remember Fall is just around the corner!

Ending the Summer in Yellow #3

I am in love with this Vintage Lace Dress!

We came upon this old Whiskey Still on one of our hikes through the trails in Cherry Log. It is a perfect place for an evening gathering.

I was excited when I found this dress before June got her hands on it. Luckily, I don’t think it will be quite long enough for her, so look for it soon in my Etsy shop, The Gypsy Dragon.

Mirror, makeup and Meiomi and a girl can get ready anywhere.

I think it is great belted or not. The large vintage, woven belt tones the yellow down for the fall.

Ending the Summer in Yellow #2

I envision this Kimono Cardigan with off-white pants, a silk camisole and gold sandals, as a bathing suit cover-up, cruise wear or a beautiful compliment to your lingerie. My husband told me to act like a model hence the silly shots. I don’t know how they do it.

This piece is handpainted on silk charmeuse. It is a 19 momme which means it is a heavier weight silk with a nice drape. The trim is vintage.

The kimono cardigan is soft and elegant. I only made a few of these, but this is the only one with the long fringe.

You can find this and more original designs on my Etsy shop. Daria Pardue DesignsWith Thanks!

Ending the Summer in Yellow #1

The end of the summer always brings a tinge of sadness to me, so I decided to end it with Yellow. The happiest color on Earth.

Kudos to J. Crew for this fun yellow bikini! It is perfect for the gal who wants a little more cover up without sacrificing style. Being fifty I am not quite ready to hang up my two-piece just yet—I know there are many of you out there that would disagree with that. “No bikinis after forty and cut your hair while you’re at it.”  Frankly, I don’t care.

These retro cut bottoms are fun and stylish. They come up higher in the front and cover a bit more in the back. And the halter top is perfect for protecting your chest from the sun.

The handpainted silk scarf is one of my designs. It looks great wrapped around your neck with a white blouse or it is a perfect embellishment for your handbag.

It is cold and slippery!

I am a big fan of J.Crew. Their clothing is usually just hip enough without being too trendy. It is a great place to find basics and their pieces have been known to last for years. Plus having Lauren Hutton as a model is Super Cool!

FYI, this is not a paid post.

Please check out my Etsy shop Daria Pardue Designs to see more painted silk like the scarf I am wearing.
